Actor's Youth Theatre Academy classes start on Monday, August 3rd



Classes run August 3, 2015 - May 28, 2016

We follow the scholastic calendar of the Gilbert School District. We will not have class during Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break or Spring Break. As for other holidays (Labor Day and Memorial Day) classes will be in session.

Little Triples - ages 4-7
This class is an introduction for students that want to be triple threats.  They will sing, dance and act.
Ballet 1 - ages 6-12 
This class is an introduction to classical ballet. Students will learn the basics of ballet, timing and musicality, and proper stretching technique. Ballet is a basis of all other dance forms. 
Stretch and Conditioning - ages 10+
Students will learn and use proper and healthy stretching technique to improve flexibility and prevent injury.  They will also condition their bodies to help improve movement and dance technique. 
Ballet 1/2 - ages 12+
This class combines levels 1 and 2 in fast pace ballet class to help students learn ballet basics and progress to higher levels when the individual is ready. Students will learn beginning ballet technique, flexibility, musicality, and timing. 
Ballet 3/4 - ages 10+ - Teacher approval required
This class is high level ballet class that builds off of basic ballet technique. Students will focus on using proper and healthy body alignment and adding artistry to movement. 
Broadway Rep  - ages 12+
Students will learn dance combinations weekly to help students pick up choreography more quickly, learn different styles of dance, and develop strong performance skills.   Must have 1-2 years of prior ballet/jazz dance training. This class works at a quicker pace!
Leaps and Turns - ages 10+
Focusing solely on improving and perfecting different kinds of leaps and turns. Must have knowledge of basic turns and leaps, and have 1-2 years prior ballet/jazz dance training.
Acting 1 - ages 8-12
Students will learn basics of acting. They will focus on learning and applying stage directions, proper and healthy vocal projection and articulation, beginning improvisation skills, and learning and identifying structure of a play. 
Acting 2 - ages 10+
In this class students will continue to build on basic acting technique. Students will continue working on implementing stage directions into their work. Students will work on healthy and proper vocal projection. Students will learn about play structure and write their own plays. 
Acting 3 - ages 12+ 
Students will continue to work on proper vocal technique, stage directions, improvisation and play structure. Students will learn how break down a scene, develop a character and apply it to a scene. Students will learn the beginning of beat work. 
Acting 4 - Teacher approval Required
Students will continue to build off of basic acting principles. Students will review beat work and continue applying it. In this class students will perform scenes regularly doing character and play research and implementing beat work.   
Acting for Boys - ages 8+
This will be a combined level 1 and 2 class for boys. The will learn all of the basic acting techniques in a class full of guys. 
Boys Core - ages 8+
This dance class is focused on giving male students the core basics of dance in one class. Students will learn aspects of musical theatre, jazz, tap and strength and conditioning.  It will help them build on their strengths individually but also to help them be more prepared for choreography for productions they are part of.
Combo Ballet/Tap - ages 3-7
This class is a beginning introductory class for young dancers. This class is a combination of ballet, jazz and tap. Students will also focus on flexibility and musicality.   
Jazz - All Levels  - ages 8+
Jazz classes will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
Tap - All Levels - ages 8+
Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm Tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
Voice Tech 1 - ages 8-13
Vocal Technique I- Introduction to the fundamentals of vocal production with an emphasis on breathing techniques, tone production, diction and performance through group/solo singing. Also including elements of theory to build their knowledge of notes, rhythms, dynamics and introduce them to recognizing pitches and intervals by sound.
Voice Tech 2 - ages 10+
Voice Tech 3 - ages 12+
Vocal Technique II and III - this class will include elements of stage presence and part singing.  During this course they will not only work on group technique and learn to balance and blend, but will also work on their individual solos. These classes will also focus on learning music theory to assist in reading sheet music. As well will also focus on Aural Perception (training the ear). Music is both auditory and visual and by combining both of these, it takes your musicianship to the next level!

**ALL CLASSES WILL BE SUBJECT TO TEACHER APPROVAL BASED ON EXPERIENCE BOTH FOR AGE AND LEVEL** 
Ages are just a guideline, please ask if you have any questions or concerns!  Our goal is to provide classes that everyone can learn and improve and build their technique and skills for beginning through advanced students!
