Ricky Araiza Named Associate Aritistic Director at Childsplay

from our friends at Childsplay:

Ricky Araiza, who became a Childsplay ensemble member after graduating from Arizona State University in 2004, has been named Associate Artistic Director – Director of Artist and Community Initiatives.

Araiza’s responsibilities include leading Childsplay’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Those initiatives focus, in part, on discovering, nurturing and stewarding relationships with underrepresented communities of artists, BIPOC communities in Childsplay audiences, and with new voices telling new stories to the community.

“Ricky is a multi-talented artist and leader who fully understands and appreciates the importance of diversity both on our stage and in our audiences,” said Childsplay Managing Director Steve Martin. “He brings valuable perspectives to our management team and to the communities we serve.”

Arizona-born Araiza first took the stage in Childsplay’s 2004 production of The New Kid. In 2009 he stepped away from professional work to study Physical Ensemble Based Theatre at Dell’Arte International in Blue Lake, CA. In 2017, he received his M.F.A. from Arizona State University.

He has also done work nationally with the Playwright’s Center in Minneapolis, the La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, CA and Su Teatro in Denver, CO. Araiza continues to work as a director, actor, and teaching artist throughout the Valley, also serving as Artistic Director of Teatro Bravo, a Latinx theatre company in Phoenix.

Click here for more information on this production that runs through April 10

"While almost everyone has heard of the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, you've probably never heard of his sister, Nannerl Mozart. However, if you're a fan of theatre, music, or Mozart, you'll find much to enjoy in the one-woman show The Other Mozart, which documents the story of Mozart's long forgotten older sister, Maria Anna Mozart, nicknamed Nannerl. Starring Daniela Galli, who is wonderful in the part, this interesting and thought-provoking play is appearing at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts in a week-long run through April 10...Daniela Galli does a wonderful job morphing from the precocious and playful young girl to the elegant and refined, yet frustrated, lonely and restricted, married woman in a performance full of charm, passion and strength..."   -Gil Benbrook, Talkin' Broadway (click here to read the complete review)

Pooh's Tummy

Pooh's Tummy is the endearing - but very hungry - part of Pooh! This role can be one or more performers who are onstage, offstage or any way that fits your production. Piglet

Piglet is a shy and quiet pig. He is often afraid of his own shadow but is also incredibly smart and noble and a great problem solver.
Gender: Any

Rabbit

Rabbit is a worrisome rabbit who means the best for his friends but is not always sure how to help.
Gender: Any

Owl

Owl is a well-educated, slightly pompous owl. He is quick to explain or lecture, even when he isn't sure of the right answer.
Gender: Any

Kanga

Kanga is a gentle kangaroo and mother to Roo. She is good-natured and always ready to take care of the other animals.
Gender: Female

Roo

Roo is a kangaroo and the youngest animal in the wood. He is boisterous and playful and always looks up to his friend Tigger.
Gender: Any

Eeyore

Eeyore is a gloomy but loyal donkey. He can never seem to shake his bad luck and is constantly losing his tail. Despite his gloomy attitude, he always wants the best for his friends.
Gender: Any

Bees, chorus, and forest animals
Gender: Any

Christopher Robin
Christopher Robin is a kind boy who plays with his animal friends in the Hundred Acre Wood and leads by example. While his disappearance creates the scare of the Backson, his return sets everything right again. (This is a non-singing role.)

All auditioners should be between the ages of 8 to 19. Auditioners should prepare a 1 to 2-minute comedic monologue and 16 bars of an upbeat song or ballad and be dressed to move.  Bring sheet music.
