Throwing Voices: On Writing Dialogue That Doesn’t Sound Like You
Description:
As playwrights, we practice ventriloquism on a large scale- throwing our voices through ensembles. One of the biggest challenges in writing compelling dialogue is to make characters not sound like YOU. In this workshop, through a series of writing exercises and craft talk, we’ll use several different techniques to diversify our character voices and give them a life of their own.
What To Bring:
Something to write with and on. A journal or legal pad would be preferable, but laptops work as well. Don’t bring anything you’re currently working on- we’ll be working on generating material from scratch.
