Casting Priorities: In casting, the Theatre & Film Arts Department of MCC prioritizes matriculating students first and foremost. Each semester we do cast a limited number of community members, but community members should be advised that the department will prioritize casting of students first. If cast, community members would also need to enroll in MCC's production class -- THP201AA.
Schedule
Rehearsals begin on February 24, 2025 with an initial company meeting that same day at 5pm
Tech begins April 16. There are six performances between 4/25 - 5/3, 2025.
Synopsis
In the outrageously funny masterpiece The Imaginary Invalid, the hypochondriac Argan wants his daughter to marry a doctor so he can save on his medical bills. But she's in love with someone else. Soon the whole household joins in her madcap scheme to save true love and give Argan's doctors a dose of their own medicine.
Character Breakdown
Argan, a severe hypochondriac.
Toinette, witty maid-servant of Argan.
Angélique, daughter of Argan, in love with Cléante.
Béline, second wife of Argan.
Cléante, lover of Angélique. Kind, but not very bright.
Dr. Diafoirus, a physician.
Thomas Diafoirus, his son, betrothed to Angelique by her father. Nephew of Dr. Purgon.
Louison, Argan's young daughter, sister of Angélique.
Béralde, brother of Argan.
Dr. Purgon, physician to Argan, who exploits his hypochondria.
Mr. Bonnefoy, a notary.
Wow, this is a blast from the past! Back in 1990-something, I blindly auditioned for "The Imaginary Invalid" at Tempe Little Theatre. It was directed by a teacher from MCC, Richard Felnagle. He had modified it into a ragtime musical using (now out-of-copyright) Irving Berlin's music. So, rather than Alexander's Ragtime Band, it was Arthur Heartwell's Ragtime Band! I got to play that role, and that basically started me in the community theater scene. This sounds like you're doing the traditional play, but I thought you might be interested in that back history!
