"Sue Mengers may not be a household name but she was the first female power agent in Hollywood who had a large pool of A-list clients, including Barbra Streisand, Gene Hackman, Peter Bogdanovich, Ali McGraw and Michael Caine. She was also known for her dinner parties, where the latest Hollywood gossip was a main dish on the menu. In John Logan's one-woman comedy I'll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers, Mengers takes center stage as she talks about her life, past and present clients, and how she became to be such a powerful agent, all while dishing plenty of gossip as she waits for an important phone call. iTheatre Collaborative presents a solid production of this chatty and intriguing play with an excellent performance by Laura Durant as Mengers....Durant is excellent in connecting the dots in Logan's script, and in the stories that Mengers recounts of her past and her dealings with her clients, to add up to a greater whole that allows us to see and understand this woman, warts and all....a rich discovery of one woman's journey to the top of the Hollywood power ladder through her own persistence and dedication to her clients. In iTheatre Collaborative's winning production, Laura Durant beautifully evokes a richly detailed and memorable portrait of this formidable woman." -Gil Benbrook, Talkin' Broadway (click here to read the complete review)
review - JEREMY JORDAN WITH SETH RUDETSKY - Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts
highlights from local critics reviews - (click link at bottom of each review to read complete review)
"For the past ten years, Jeremy Jordan has had a successful career on the Broadway stage and in TV series and films. He has also built an impressive following and fan base, which was apparent from his sold-out concert his past weekend at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Jordan's amazingly clear and strong singing voice delivered gorgeous versions of songs from the Broadway shows he appeared in, plus other selections. Jordan's concert was part of the Seth Rudetsky concert series, which featured Rudetsky not only accompanying Jordan on the piano but also asking him a series of in-depth questions between songs in an informal interview format....In addition to his gorgeous singing voice, Jordan has a warm and charismatic personality that was on full display throughout the concert...." -Gil Benbrook, Talkin' Broadway (click here to read the complete review)
review - BRIGADOON - Hale Centre Theatre
Click here for more information on this production that runs through March 26
"With a score dripping with lush love songs and a simple but moving story set around a wedding in the dreamy highlands of Scotland, Brigadoon is one of the most romantic musicals ever written. Hale Centre Theatre features a cast with exceptional singing voices and energetic dance steps, resulting in a gorgeous and solid production of this classic musical....Director Cambrian James does a wonderful job staging the show in the small Hale space to provide a perfect amount of intimacy while also using the various aisles and stairs to expand the feeling of a larger town setting for the many large ensemble numbers. His choreography is superb and well danced by the cast....As Tommy Albright, Austin Delp's rich voice delivers gorgeous versions of some of the show's biggest hits. He and Amanda Valenzuela, as Fiona MacLaren, create a romantic pair you want to see succeed, even though there is a big obstacle in the way of their budding romance. Valenzuela creates a warm and honest portrayal of Fiona with a lilting singing voice that soars...." -Gil Benbrook, Talkin' Broadway (click here to read the complete review)
