audition notice - A CHRISTMAS CAROL - Hale Centre Theatre - August 10 & 11
Hale Centre Theatre will hold auditions for Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol playing November 29th – December 24th. The show is produced by David and Corrin Dietlein, directed by David Dietlein, music directed by Lincoln Wright and choreographed by Cambrian James. Performances are Monday – Saturday nights at 5 pm and 8 pm with matinees at 11 am and 2 pm.
SYNOPSIS
This is Hale’s adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens’ novel. This is a play with music including a few production numbers. This optimistic Christmas message shows us that the human spirit is capable of renewal. It’s hopeful message has earned a place of honor in the hearts of generations.
Audition times are as follows:
Children: Friday, August 10, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
● Children will not be asked to dance or sing at the audition.
● Children will read one short scene (Little Fan & Boy Scrooge). You can download the sides
under the roles tab.
● A headshot and resume are required to be posted on CastingManager.com before auditions.
Adults: Saturday, August 11, from, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
● Adults will read one scene from the play. You can download the sides for the role you wish to
read for under the roles tab.
● Adults will also sing 16 bars of music. Bring your own sheet music, an accompanist will be
provided.
● Dance will not be required at the audition.
● A headshot and resume are required to be posted on CastingManager.com before auditions.
Adult vs. Child Auditions
Sign up for only 1 audition slot regardless of if you are interested in both "Child" and "Adult" Roles.
Choose the Audition that has the role you are most interested in. Casting will be based on how
old/young you appear & act and not your actual age. You may note additional roles that you would
like to be considered for in the box that says "Enter Other Conflict Notes" when you sign up for an
audition.
Callbacks
Will be held Friday, August 17th and Saturday, August 18th with rehearsals beginning Saturday,
October 15th.
Audition Location
Auditions will be held at the theater located at 50 West Page Avenue in Gilbert. Auditions are by
appointment only.

Payment
Actors ages 14 and older will receive a $40 per performance payment; this is an estimated payment
of $1000.00 * for the run of the show (approximately 25 performances). Actors who perform in both
casts will receive an estimated payment of $2040.00 (approximately 51 performances). All children
under the age of 14 will receive a $300.00 stipend for the entire production. Actors will receive a free
meal between matinee and evening performances.
*Estimated payment may differ if performances are added or removed and depending on the cast.
Red and Green Casts
This show will have two separate casts (Red and Green) which accounts for approximately 25
performances for each cast. There will be a new Ebenezer Scrooge in the Green cast and Cory
McCloskey will be returning as Scrooge in the Red cast.
Other notes
This show is an energetic musical adaptation which has great choral work, dance and acting. Each
actor will be very busy throughout the show as there are 22 scenes within 1 hour and 55 minutes.
CASTING
BOB CRATCHIT : (35 - 45) Gentle, loving father and husband. Scrooge's overworked underpaid clerk. A hard working clerk in Scrooge’s employment. Dedicated to his family, especially his young son Tiny Tim. Cratchit maintains a kind heart, even in the face of Scrooge’s mean-spiritedness.
FRED : (25 - 35) W arm and compassionate, Scrooge’s nephew, feels sorry for the old man, yet still
obligated to him, being family. He is full of Christmas cheer, energetic. Must sing.
MARLEY’S GHOST : (30 - 55) Scrooge's deceased business partner. Tormented, enslaved sinner.
Returned from the grave to warn Scrooge of the consequences of living the life of a miser.
NARRATORS : (20 - 50) Male and female. Strong, resonant voices.
GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST : (20-35) Female, ethereal, whimsical and sensitive. Full of the
Christmas spirit.
GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT : (30 - 60) A large jovial man who wears a long cape and has a
wreath on his head.
MRS. CRATCHIT : (30 - 40) Strong, kind, Tiny Tim's mother. A wonderful wife and mother, hopeful
and generous.
MR. FEZZIWIG : (35 - 55) Robust, optimistic, full of the Christmas spirit. , a portly, jolly man.
MRS. FEZZIWIG : (30 - 50) Robust, loving, energetic wife. the cheerful wife of Mr. Fezziwig the
banker. Happy to reach out and help her fellow man. Later, become poor and can't understand why
Scrooge won't help her husband.
DICK WILKINS : (17 - 22) Young Scrooge's best friend. Energetic. Stage fight combat a plus.
YOUNG SCROOGE : (20-30) Ambitious, selfish.
BELLE : (18-30) Young Scrooge's Fiancé. Beautiful, kind, sensitive and good hearted . Truly in love with young Ebenezer. Happy with the simple things in life - friends, family, and the joy that comes from loving someone and being loved in return.
FRED’S WIFE : (28 - 35) Tired of the thought of inviting "Uncle Scrooge" over for Christmas dinner
each year.
OLD JOE : (40 - 60) Crooked pawnshop owner.
CHARWOMEN : (30 - 50) Character roles, energetic.
CHORUS : (16-45) Male and female singers, actors and dancers. Some character roles will be cast
from the chorus.
BOY SCROOGE : (7 - 12) Lonely, quiet and sensitive. He desperately misses his parents and wants to find a home of his own.
LITTLE FAN : (10 -14) Happy, sweet. Boy Scrooge's little sister.
THE CRATCHIT CHILDREN
MARTHA CRATCHIT : Oldest daughter in the Cratchit family. A mature and happy young woman.
PETER CRATCHIT : The oldest son. Fun loving proper English boy who has heart.
BELINDA CRATCHIT : The second oldest daughter, happy, sweet, loving, energetic.
CAROL CRATCHIT : The third oldest daughter, happy, sweet, loving, energetic.
DOUG CRATCHIT : The second oldest boy, happy, sweet, loving, energetic.
TINY TIM : (6 - 9) Optimistic and gentle spirited. Weak and crippled, but full of true goodness and
hope. More than anyone Tiny Tim embodies the Christmas Spirit.
