Auditions for Showtune Productions' upcoming production of THE MUSIC MAN in concert at the Orpheum Theatre at the Orpheum Theatre have been announced for April 1 & 2
Please note: this is a non equity production. Open call only so no need to call for an appointment.

Synopsis
The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian.
Character Breakdown
ALL roles are available except MARIAN PAROO.
WINTHROP PAROO (age 8-12) and AMARYLLIS (age 8-12) will be cast at a later date.
ROLES TO BE CAST:
HAROLD HILL A con man, traveling under the auspices of a salesman, he eventually falls in love with Marian Paroo. Charismatic and charming. Gender: male Age: 25 to 40
CHARLIE COWELL A traveling salesmen who is on to Harold Hill’s schemes. Tirelessly attempts to prove to everyone the true con man behind Harold Hill. Gender: male Age: 25 to 40
MAYOR SHINN A blustery politician who is all too “self-important.” Begrudgingly married to Eulalie, he is skeptical of the town rumor mill. Gender: male Age: 45 to 60
MARCELLUS WASHBURN Harold’s chummy old friend and former con man, he now lives in River City and is trying to settle down. Gender: male Age: 25 to 40
TOMMY DJILAS An attractive, young man from the wrong side of town. He is secretly courting Zaneeta. Gender: male Age: 15 to 20
MRS. PAROO Cheerful and always plotting. An Irish widow and mother to Marian and Winthrop. Gender: female Age: 45 to 60
EULALIE MCKECKNIE SHINN Mayor Shinn’s peacock wife. A serial gossiper and snob, she has trouble keeping her opinions to herself. Gender: female Age: 40 to 60
ZANEETA SHINN The Mayor’s fresh-faced daughter who is in love with Tommy. Sweet and outgoing. Appears to be daffy at times. Gender: female Age: 14 to 20
ALMA HIX A “Pick-a-Little Lady” married to Oliver Hix. Gender: female Age: 25 to 45
MAUD DUNLOP A “Pick-a-Little Lady” married to Ewart Dunlop. Gender: female
Age: 25 to 45
ETHEL TOFFELMIER A comical “Pick-a-Little Lady,” and Marcellus Washburn’s girlfriend.

MRS. SQUIRES A “Pick-a-Little Lady” married to Jacey Squires.Gender: female

BARBERSHOP QUARTET Gender: Male Stodgy city counsel members/salesmen in opening scene. Age: 25 – 55

Showtune Productions is a Arizona-based entertainment company in it’s 7th season, dedicated to bringing live professional performances to audiences throughout the United States. Performers and musicians are cast locally and nationally. JR McAlexander, (Producer/Musical Director), a 30-year veteran of the professional musical theatre, has music directed over 375 productions throughout the United States and Canada including National Tours of ALL SHOOK UP, THE WEDDING SINGER, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, ANYTHING GOES, FOOTLOOSE and BEEHIVE, THE 60’S MUSICAL.
M. Seth Reines (Producer/Director), a member of the Society of Directors and Choreographers and Actors Equity, has staged over 450 productions for stage and television, including national tours of ALL SHOOK UP, THE WEDDING SINGER, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE and SOUTH PACIFIC.
Dottie Lester-White (Choreographer), dance captain/performer in the original Broadway productions of HELLO, DOLLY!; NO, NO, NANETTE; COCO and national tours, served as resident choreographer for American Musical Theatre of San Jose, staging countless West Coast premieres.
MUSIC MAN IN CONCERT, features a 17-piece orchestra, 30-50-member choir and 19 Actors, will perform at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix. Production will feature the entire libretto and score, costumes and scenic drops, musical staging and limited choreography.
What To Prepare
16-24 measures of a traditional Broadway song. Please prepare an additional contrasting song that the performer may be ask to sing in the initial audition. Please bring printed music in performer’s key. An accompanist will be provided. No audio recordings or karaoke tracks allowed!
