audition notice - IN THE GARDEN - Nearly Naked Theatre - February 27 & 28

NEARLY NAKED THEATRE will be holding auditions for the ARIZONA PREMIERE of  
IN THE GARDEN

directed by Damon Dering    

SEDUCTION IS AS SEDUCTION DOES
The lives of four urban sophisticates are rocked by the arrival of a young man, who is everything but what he seems. With unworldly charisma, this handsome young man constructs a web of seduction and theology grounded in the lessons of the New Testament. A professor of philosophy, his fashionista wife, and their glib young friends must rise to the boy's erotic and spiritual challenge, questioning their lives as they question his very identity. With high comedy and thought-provoking drama, In the Garden blends sexual conventions, high fashion, Nietzsche, and Christ in an uber-theatrical rollercoaster ride.

NEEDED  
3 Men & 2 Women  between the ages 18-50.

CHARACTERS  

GABE (male 18-25): Smart and witty, handsome and athletic, a deep dessire to learn, yet confident that he “knows” already.  Gabe says he’s a student, but maybe he isn’t.  He says he’s 18, but maybe he isn’t.  He even thinks himself Christ, and maybe he is. THIS ROLE REQUIRES NUDITY.  

JOHN (male 40-55): A professor of philosophy, perhaps having a mid-life crisis, John has an affair with a young male student, and thinks his wife doesn’t know.  What he doesn’t know is his wife is having an affair with his best friend, and that same “student.” THIS ROLE MAY REQUIRE AT LEAST PARTIAL NUDITY.

MURIEL (female 40-55).  John’s sophisticated wife. She is a fashion consultant and editor of a fashion magazine.  She is smart and longing for something she can’t find in her marriage.  What she finds in Gabe is not what she expected.

LIZZIE (female 25-35) Muriel’s friend and assistant at the magazine. She is planning a wedding, but deeply drawn to helping a young drifter in the park. A drifter she has no idea is deeply intertwined in her life already, and her boss’s life, and her boss’s husband’s life... and her fiance’s.

WALTER (male 25-35) John’s younger friend. Fiercely  aggressive in his pursuit of money and success, even as he prepared to marry Lizzie, continue his affair with Muriel and even bed the young hustler that his friend John thinks is a student.
Sexy and complicated. Funny and thoughtful. In the Garden is a fun dramedy and an exciting challenge for its cast.

AUDITIONS  
will be held on MONDAY & TUESDAY , February 27 & 28 from 8:30pm - 10:30pm. Venue & Directions given when  appointment made (likely at the GREASEPAINT space in Scottsdale)

PREPARE  
cold reads from the script.  Sides will be issues via email if actors submit an electronic headshot and resume (or any picture and a brief summary of experience).      

REHEARSALS BEGIN    
Immediately, 4 to 5 nights a week, 6:00PM to 10:30PM.      

RUN DATES  
March 24th - April 15th  2017

STIPEND RANGE: $150-$300
