"Bob & Jean: A Love Story is a heartfelt and deeply personal play by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan that is having its world premiere in a lovely production at Arizona Theatre Company. Serving as an autobiographical love letter to his own parents, the play is both touching and nostalgic, painting a vivid portrait of a whirlwind courtship set against the horrors of WWII. While the piece occasionally lingers a bit too long and the narrative can feel both repetitive and static due to its format being mainly the spoken delivery of handwritten correspondence, these shortcomings are balanced by a strong cast, thoughtful direction, and rich design elements that infuse the production with warmth, charm, vulnerability and life."   - Gil Benbrook, TalkinBroadway.com (click here to read the complete review)

"Not only is the play smartly presented in Matt August’s winningly staged and artfully performed production but it exposes the challenges of a separated relationship and how it can prosper with strong personal commitments..What makes “Bob & Jean: A Love Story” so richly rewarding is that this story could happen anytime and not just during an historic world conflict.  This relationship could occur anytime when couples are separated by actions that drive people apart.  Could “Bob & Jean: A Love Story” be set today?  It very well could!"    -Chris Curcio, Curtain Up Phoenix (click here to read the complete review)

"There are love stories that sweep us up in the thrill of passion, and then there are love stories that unfold with the slow, deliberate patience of real life. BOB & JEAN: A LOVE STORY, premiering at Arizona Theatre Company, belongs to the latter, but it is no less exhilarating. It is a labor of a son’s love. Written by Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan, the play is inspired by the true wartime courtship of his parents, brought to life through letters exchanged across vast continents and battlefronts. In an age when love often unfolds in text messages and vanishing images, this production is a poignant reminder of a time when love was written in longhand and built on carefully chosen words."   - Herbert Paine, Broadway World (click here to read the complete review)
