Brelby Theatre Company's Spring 2016 Classes

from our friends at Brelby Theatre Company:

The Brelby Theatre Company located in Historic Downtown Glendale, is bringing back its educational offerings this February with a new assortment of classes led by their experienced staff of theatre practitioners. The roster will include Brelby’s signature offering, the Production Intensive, a Youth Theatre Ensemble, an Improv Intensive, and will re-introduce Brelby’s Fight Club.

“Art is about taking risks,” says Brelby instructor, John Perovich. ”We grow when we put ourselves in an environment that challenges and supports us.” Perovich is currently pursuing his Master of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing at Arizona State University. The courses that he teaches at Brelby include the Youth Theatre Ensemble, the playwriting track in the Production Intensive, and leading the Brelby Write Club.

“Participating in a class at Brelby is an investment in growing your artistic talents, expanding your theatre knowledge, and learning more about who you are as an artist and the artist you want to become.” Perovich explains. “It's also an opportunity to have fun, try something new, and network with other artists who may become future collaborators.” While the classes can be a great fit for experienced artists, they are also open and welcome to individuals without formal training or experience.

Production Intensive (ages 17 and up)
Tuesdays, 5PM to 6:30PM
February 2 through April 5
This exciting process brings together three areas of theatre making—acting, directing, and playwriting. Participants choose one track for study and train under a teaching artist. The process culminates in a workshop performance of a new one-act play—written during the intensive and developed with directors and actors. Participants do not need any prior experience.

Fight Club (ages 17 and up)
Wednesdays, 5PM to 6:30PM
February 3 though April 6
Learn to punch, kick, flip and throw your fellow actors as convincingly—and as safely—as possible. This stage combat class focuses on making every impact as cringeworthy as possible for the audience’s entertainment. Members of Fight Club should expect fun and a full body work out! Participants must wear closed toed shoes and movement attire (NO JEANS). Participants do not need any prior experience.

Youth Theatre Ensemble (ages 13 to 18)
Thursdays, 5PM to 6:30PM
February 5 through April 7

The youth theatre ensemble offers students a wide range of developmental theatre skills. Participants experiment with multiple areas of theatre making, including, acting, improvisation, movement, directing, playwriting, and design (lighting, costume, set, makeup). The process culminates in the creation of an original work performed by ensemble members and open to the public. Participants do not need any prior experience.

Improvisation (ages 17 and up)
Saturdays, 11AM to 12PM
February 6 to April 9
Develop skills to think on your feet, build trust with scene partners, and improve instinctual choices—while having fun! Brelby Theatre is known for the hilarity, creativity, and skill of our weekly improvisation show Results May Vary. Participants can expect to develop the same skills that make our group successful. Join us for an exciting and engaging process into the unexpected world of improvisation! Participants do not need any prior experience.
