Estrella Mountain Community College proudly opens its doors to their new Performing Arts Center (PAC) with a grand opening celebration the weekend of November 6 and 7, 2015. Tim Butterfield, Coordinator of Fine Arts Facilities, has announced a weekend of activities that highlight the new centers amenities as well as the benefits the center brings to the college and the community.
Estrella Mountain Community College, serving the surrounding communities of Avondale, Buckeye and Goodyear, has seen a large increase in the student population in recent years. As the college student enrollment continues to grow, the demand for educational opportunities for children in the tri-community area has also doubled in the past year. The Performing Arts Center is poised to offer more opportunities for community programs and college classes to help meet the rising demand for arts in education.
During the grand opening festival EMCC, a presence in the tri-city area since 1992, will bring original student works to the stage and host performances from local high school, community performers and professional performers on the main stage and an outdoor stage.
The grand opening weekend events will include an interactive tour of the facility that highlights the architecture and usability of the center's classrooms, the 297 seat main stage, and 90 seat black box theatres. The interactive nature of the weekend's event will highlight some of the educational and entertainment options made available through the center including: screen printing, ballroom dancing, drumming, photo editing, acting activities and make-up tutorials.
After the ribbon cutting of the new facility, EMCC President Dr. Ernie Lara will pay tribute to Dr Bryan Tippet, the Former VP of Academic and Student Affairs who passed away suddenly in February. Dr. Tippet was one of the earliest and most enthusiastic proponents for the new center. As well, Maricopa Community College District Vice Chancellor Maria Harper-Marinick will speak at the inaugural ceremony.
The two days of festivities offer the community, potential donors, and dignitaries the chance to enjoy the PAC amenities as they will be used by students and members of the tri-city community.
