"Home Is Where The ART Is!"

STELLA AND LOU by Bruce Graham ( September 13 - 29)

On a quiet night at Lou’s bar, three kindred spirits seek solace as they navigate changing times, past and present relationships, friendship, forgiveness and the need for companionship even with the passage of time.  Frequently funny, quietly poignant and maybe familiar, it is well worth dropping by and listening in.

THIS by Melissa James Gibson (October18 - November 3)

Jane is not ok. She is a poet without a muse, a single mother without a clue, her dating life is in shambles and her friends are made up of confused lovable characters who just make things more complicated. This bright, witty, unromantic comedy captures the uncertain steps of a circle of friends backing their way into middle age.

TWIST OF THE MAGI by Debra Rich Gettleman ( December 6 – 22)

Inspired by O’Henry’s classic tale, “Gift of the Magi,” “Twist” takes place in a 1940’s radio studio, with a host of wacky characters, compromising situations, and questionable romances. This farcical adventure with a dash of music is the perfect recipe for Holiday fun that will delight the entire family.

BIRTHDAY CANDLES by Noah Haidle (January 17 - February 2)

Ernestine Ashworth spends her 17th birthday agonizing over her insignificance in the universe. Soon enough, it’s her 18th birthday. Even sooner, her 41st. Her 70th. Her 101st. Five generations, an infinity of dreams, and one cake baked over a century. This touching and beautiful play will take you through the highlights, heartbreaks and extraordinary moments that make up one woman’s ordinary life.

THE CLEAN HOUSE By Sarah Ruhl (February 21 - March 9)

This theatrical and wildly funny play delves into the lives of a married couple, Charles and Lane, their quirky maid, who harbors a secret desire to be a comedian rather than clean. Bring in some other memorable characters to the household and amidst unfolding affairs and unexpected connections, you will find a whimsical and compelling look at class, comedy and the true nature of love.

ART by Yasmina Reza (March 28 - April 13)

Translated by Christopher Hampton

A sophisticated, stylish, stimulating, dazzling comedy and yet a moving, disturbing and provocative look at the serious issues of life and art. If a friendship is based on mutual agreement, what happens when one person does something completely different and unexpected. The question is: Are you who you think you are or are you who your friends think you are?

THE MEMORY OF WATER by Shelagh Stephenson (May 2 - 18)

This engaging and hugely entertaining play provides an insight into the lives of three sisters who are reunited for their mother’s funeral. All with their strong, colorful, personalities recall the past but find that personal grievances have colored their memories. Add their hidden lies and self-deceptions, throw in the men in their lives, and their mother’s ghost and you will want to see how it all turns out in the end.

"Centering around a group of high school students in 1890s Germany, the Tony-winning pop-rock musical Spring Awakening tackles issues that continue to impact young adults today, including sexual awakening and teen suicide. With direction that provides a rich clarity and connection with the material, and featuring an age-appropriate cast of teenagers who excel in portraying the young adults as they navigate the harsh realities of life, Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre's production of this mature musical is outstanding. The authenticity and raw talent of the cast add powerful depth to the characters' coming of age struggles which, making this production extremely compelling and profoundly relevant....Co-directors Mark and Lynzee 4man bring a fresh perspective to the production, opting not to model their efforts on the highly regarded original Broadway production. Instead, they introduce original touches while eliciting realistic, heartfelt, and nuanced performances from their young cast. The show's adult content and profanity is treated respectfully and always presented with authenticity. "  - Gil Benbrook, TalkinBroadway.com (click here to read the complete review)
