AMERICAN MYTH - Theatre Artists Studio - October 17 - November 1, 2015

by Christina Gorman

Based on actual events, American Myth follows a young journalist who accuses his former history professor of making up biographical anecdotes that the eager writer had included as facts in a laudatory profile of the famous man. This highly topical play explores intriguing moral questions in today's controversy-saturated society where the smallest public misstep can result in utter catastrophe. We meet the disaffected former student, seething with injured innocence and idealism, egged on by his sensation-seeking editor. We see the loyal, sacrificing wife, caught and confused by her husband's complexity. And, finally, we watch a great man, a teacher of facts, facing a very public humiliation and his own private truths.

"...American Myth [is] riveting. This play continues to make me wonder about the interpretation of history from a personal perspective. What should we believe? What should we question? What is the American Myth?" —The Fourth Walsh
