We are thrilled to welcome Broadway star and TONY AWARD winner JESSIE MUELLER to Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts for a special one-night only Musical Theater Master Class! The class will take place Friday, November 16, 2018 at 6:30pm in the Virginia G. Piper Theater in Scottsdale.
Ms. Mueller will also be appearing on stage the following evening in concert and conversation with SiriusXM On-Broadway personality Seth Rudetsky as part of our Broadway Series. Tickets are available at https://www.scottsdaleperformingarts.org/event/jessie-mueller/
Jessie Mueller is one the most sought after Broadway performers working today! Most recently, Miss Mueller received a Tony nomination for her portrayal of Julie Jordan in the Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel. Prior to that she received a Tony nomination for creating the role of Jenna in the hit Broadway musical Waitress written by Sara Bareilles. She won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for playing Carole King in the bio-musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Her other Broadway credits include: The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Nice Work If You Can Get It, and On A Clear Day You Can See Forever (Tony Nomination).
In this special one-night class, Ms. Mueller will work with each student on audition technique and song interpretation. She will focus on giving actors the opportunity to take their audition and performance skills to the next level and how to better connect to their audition material. Students will break down their song material with one-on-one coaching in front of our observer audience. Finally, students will have the opportunity to be part of a Q & A with Miss Mueller at the end of the session.
Only 6 students between the ages of 17 to 25 will be chosen to participate in the one-on-one workshop.
If you would like to be considered for the class, please submit a resume and a digital video clip (ideally 2 minutes or less) or YouTube link to your performance of a musical theater selection of your choosing. Send an email with your resume + video by November 9th to MichaelW@ScottsdaleArts.org. Please include a short note with why you’d like to be chosen to participate, and what you hope to get from this experience.
The selected participants will be contacted by November 12th. Those selected will be asked to pay a $60 fee which helps cover the cost of the piano accompanist and staffing that night. Scholarship support based on need may be requested.
We would also like to invite other musical theater students and theater-lovers to join us to observe this special master-class. Tickets to observe the class are just $10 per person. Send an email to CassandraB@ScottsdaleArts.org with Subject Line: Observe JM MC and a link to pay will be emailed.
