This holiday season Desert Stages is bringing the classic story to life on our Actor's Cafe stage~ A Christmas Story The Play!

ALL ROLES ARE OPEN:

RALPH [Male, 30-45]
The adult version of Ralphie and the narrator of the play. Must be charismatic, a great storyteller, and able to carry the entire play. This actor also typically plays THE COWBOY, THE TREE LOT OWNER, THE DELIVERY MAN, and THE NEIGHBOR.

RALPHIE PARKER [Male, 8-12]
To play nine years old. Observant and considerate, with a vivid imagination and ability to come up with schemes. Dreams of getting a BB gun for Christmas and being a vigilante cowboy.

MOTHER [Female, 30-45]
Ralphie’s mother is the glue holding the household together. She is more intelligent than she lets on, and it takes a lot to irritate her. She almost always is calm and collected, despite her being firmly against Ralphie getting a BB gun.

THE OLD MAN [Male, 35-50]
Called “The Old Man” not because he’s old, but because he is Ralphie’s father. The Old Man is grumpy and a sore loser; he delights in repairing hardware around the house. He loves his family, but does not feel the need to show it.

RANDY [Male, 6-11]
Ralphie’s kid brother. Messy, needy, and a bit immature. Needs to be able to snort like a pig. Need to play 6 or 7.

MISS SHIELDS [Female, 25-45]
Ralphie’s teacher. Strict yet caring. She takes no nonsense, as she tries to keep a hold on her classroom. She also should be able to deliver over-the-top melodrama in some of the fantasy sequences.

FLICK [Male, 8-12]
Ralphie’s friend and classmate. Outspoken, with personality & humor but gets bullied constantly by Scut Farkas. A weakling with a lot of heart; think like Dustin from Stranger Things.

SCHWARTZ [Male, 8-12]
Ralphie’s friend and classmate. He is falsely blamed for teaching Ralphie bad words. Just as much personality as Flick, and he never skips a chance to poke Flick’s injured arm.

ESTHER JANE ALBERRY [Female, 8-12]
A somewhat shy and sweet classmate of Ralphie’s who harbors a crush on him.

HELEN WEATHERS [Female, 8-12]
Extremely intelligent, high-achiever, and sure of herself. Helen is the brainiest girl in Ralphie’s class, but she could also beat up all the boys if she wanted to.

SCOUT FARKAS [Male, 9-12]
The school bully who goes after Ralphie and his friends. He should be highly intimidating, and he supposedly has terrifying yellow eyes!
