Mesa Encore Theatre Invites Director Submittals for their 2019 / 2020 Black Box Productions

Mesa Encore Theatre is ready to bring in the 2019-2020 Black Box Season. Directors, please submit a proposal for one of the following productions below.

All submissions will be considered, with preference given to an approach for a minimalistic lack of spectacle and bare-bones budget.

Directors must have a clear vision for the show. Please keep in mind when submitting an intent to direct that the Mesa Encore Black Box is a small and intimate space that cannot accommodate major or complex scenic design and changes, numerous props, and plentiful costume accessories.

Each production will include approximately five weeks of rehearsal in our secondary rehearsal space, a full Tech week on stage, and nine performances spanning three weekends: Friday evenings, Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons, with a possible potential for a Thursday evening and/or Saturday matinee. The shows will be produced with set, props, lighting, sound, and costumes, in our (55) seat Black Box Theatre with full technical support.

If you are interested in directing any of the shows at the MET Black Box, please submit an intent to direct to Van Rockwell, Black Box Manager, at vanjrockwell@gmail.com. Please include your resume to the email with a good contact number where you can be reached. Headshots are optional. There is no limit on the intent per show, so the more detail you are the better.

Those who are considered will be brought in for an interview with the Black Box Manager, MET Artistic Director, and Black Box subcommittee members for a one-on-one Q&A. All submissions will be reviewed by the subcommittee,

The submission deadline is April 30, 2018. Knowledge of each play is strongly preferred, but not required. If a submission moves forward, a PDF copy of the script may be available to read before the Q&A. Even artists with little to no directing experience will be considered. We will also accept submissions for design positions as well.

This is a paid position – stipend to be discussed upon selection.
