ALBATROSS - Arizona Theatre Company - March 16 - 26, 2017

By MATTHEW SPANGLER and BENJAMIN EVETT

Albatross, is a high-octane adventure story and multimedia extravaganza, arriving in Phoenix after triumphant runs in New York City, Boston, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Albatross combines sophisticated multimedia with a performance that the EdFringe Review called “at times astounding” to thrust Coleridge’s supernatural sea yarn into the modern moment.

Performed as a one-person show by Benjamin Evett, Albatross blends audio and visual technology with a fast-paced, darkly-comic sea yarn to explore themes of regret, isolation, and the interconnected relationship between human beings and the natural world. Inspired by the classic poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Albatross brings you face to face with the Ancient Mariner, doomed for eternity to retell his harrowing story of an old ship, a voyage to the bottom of the world, and a mystical seabird. It delivers a profound and timely message about mindfulness and the effect of our actions on all living things.
