audition notice - SWEENEY TODD - Scottsdale Musical Theater Company - January 26


Scottsdale Musical Theater Company announces auditions for their upcoming fully staged concert version of Sweeney Todd at the Scottsdale Center for the performing Arts.

Date & Time:  Sunday January 26th: 
Singing auditions start at 7:00pm

Location:  Conservatory of Dance
13637 N. Tatum Blvd., Phoenix
(on the southeast corner of Tatum and Thunderbird)

SMTC encourages all ethnicities to audition.

Performance Dates: March 31st & April 1st
Venue: Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts

Pay: There will be a $150 performance stipend provided

Rehearsals start:           
Saturday, March 14th and will be on Monday thru Thursday nights plus Saturdays and Sundays.
There will be a rehearsal schedule with specific dates provided at auditions and a conflict sheet
to fill out.

Audition Requirements:

Audition times must be reserved and will be assigned every 5 minutes. Please prepare one vocal selection of 32 bars or less. You will need to have sheet music in the proper key; an accompanist will be provided. No CDs or acapella singing will be allowed. Please do not sing anything from Sweeney Todd. You may be asked to sing a second vocal selection and/or do a monologue not to exceed 1 minute, so please have both or those ready.


Character Breakdown
Performers, please keep in mind that SMTC held general auditions back in July for all of our
shows scheduled through summer of 2020. The two roles listed below are the remaining roles
available for Sweeney Todd not cast from those generals.

Anthony
Featured role. The young sailor who befriends Sweeney Todd. He falls in love with Joanna. Must have a beautiful and powerful singing voice. Must command the stage as a performer.
Age: Mid 20's to Early 30's,  Vocal range: Tenor

Beadle Bamford
Featured role. The pompous and arrogant public official who is as corrupt as Judge Turpin.
Should have a soaring voice and be able to handle intricate harmony.
Age: Late 30's to mid 50's,  Vocal range: High Tenor, requires a high C
