audition notice - THE GREAT GATSBY - Zao Theatre - April 8


Auditions for ZaoTheatre's production of "The Great Gatsby" will be held April 8th from 5-8 p.m. For your audition, you will be expected to prepare a one minute dramatic monologue and may be askd to do a cold reading from the script. Prior knowledge of the story is appreciated but not necessary.

Directed by Michael E. Bryce, rehearsals will take place from June to August 2019 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with breaks for holidays. Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays, August 9-24, 2019.

Character breakdowns:

JAY GATSBY: A self-made millionaire with a past he’s trying to hide. He is charming, mysterious, and passionately driven by his obsession with Daisy.

DAISY BUCHANAN: A rich socialite, and a woman who hides her vulnerabilities behind the lifestyle she’s always known. She is torn between the life she has with Tom and the life she wanted with Gatsby years ago.

NICK CARRAWAY: The narrator, who moved from the Midwest to make his fortune on the East Coast near his cousin Daisy. Nick is new to the world of extreme decadence and money, and his trying to make his fortune here.

TOM BUCHANAN: A former college football hero, he is now married to Daisy. Controlling, aggressive, and mistrustful, he does what he wants and expects others to fall in line.

JORDAN BAKER: A tennis star and friend of Daisy. She is strong-willed and protective of those she cares for, but maintains her persona at all times.

MYRTLE WILSON: George the mechanic’s wife who longs for more. She is carrying on an affair with Tom behind her husband’s back, and demands her needs are met as quickly as she makes them.

GEORGE WILSON: Tom’s mechanic and Myrtle’s husband. He is hapless but deeply devoted to Myrtle, who he wishes he could provide more for.

MEYER WOLFSHEIM: An older man affiliated with Broadway, and Gatsby’s business partner.

MR. MCKEE: A photographer and friend of Tom.

MRS. MCKEE: The socialite wife of Mr. McKee.

POLICEMAN: The responding officer to a hit and run.

MRS. MICHAELIS: Neighbor to the Wilsons.
