from our friends at Scottsdale Musical Theater Company:

TV, film and Broadway star Charles Shaughnessy returns to Scottsdale Musical Theater Company this December as Ebenezer Scrooge in the musical A Christmas Carol (December 3 - 23, 2018) at Tempe Center for the Arts.

The star of TV’s “Days of Our Lives” and “The Nanny” as well as Broadway’s Urinetown recently played Julian Marsh in SMTC’s 42nd Street opposite Debby Boone and Eloise Kropp.

“When I signed up to play Julian Marsh in 42nd Street at SMTC, I thought it would be a chance to add another role to my repertoire, for a short time commitment in a new place and, maybe, have a bit of fun in the process,” says Shaughnessy. “Who knew it would be so much more?! I found myself having a blast - working with a bunch of talented, charming people, in one of the most stunning theatres I have worked in and making some great, new friends. In fact…..it was such a good experience that I am coming back for more….as Scrooge in their upcoming holiday production of Christmas Carol.”

This musical version of A Christmas Carol features music by Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Little Shop of Horrors) and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Seussical). SMTC’s production will be directed and staged by David Hock, with dance choreography by David Hock and Hillary Conrad. Musical direction will be by Joni Van Rossum with our live 20+piece orchestra conducted by Kevin Hayward.

Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

All performances take place at Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, AZ 85281. Tickets range from $42.00 - $58.00 with special children’s ticket $25 (10 years old or younger, limit 4 per adult ticket order.) Now in its 8th year,, SMTC prides itself on “bringing Broadway’s favorites back to life”, presenting full, large-scale productions of Broadway musicals in their original forms, as they were meant to be seen. Utilizing professional sets and costumes, exciting guest stars from the world of TV, film, and Broadway, great local talent and a full live 20+ piece orchestra, SMTC has been called “the best theatre company in the Valley when it comes to producing classic musicals.” (Talkin’ Broadway).
