audition notice - THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE - Scottsdale Musical Theater Company - June 9 & 11

                                         Monday, June 11th - 7pm Singing; 9pm Dance

                          13637 N. Tatum Blvd., Phoenix (on the southeast corner of Tatum and Thunderbird)

Performance Dates:          September 27th – October 7th, at Tempe Center for the Arts

Pay:                                 There will be a $300 performance stipend offered

Rehearsals start: Beginning of August and will be on Tuesday and Thursday nights plus Saturday and Sunday afternoons. All rehearsals will be held at Conservatory of Dance in Phoenix. There will be a rehearsal schedule with specific dates provided at auditions and a conflict sheet to fill out.

Audition Requirements:

Singing/Acting Call

Audition times will be assigned every 5 minutes. Please prepare a selection of 32 bars or less. You will need to have sheet music in the proper key; an accompanist will be provided. No CDs or acapella singing will be allowed. Please do not sing anything from the show. You may also be asked to do a second vocal selection of 16 bars or less and/or a monologue, not to exceed 1 minute so please have those ready.

Dance Call

Once you have finished singing, please warm up and be ready to dance. The Dance call will start on time as indicated above. Please wear dance appropriate clothes and shoes. There will be a tap and a jazz routine taught.. All females should wear character heels if possible. Tap shoes are required for the tap portion of the dance call.

Character Breakdown

Muzzy Van Hossmere –  (Cast) Tony Award-winner Jennifer Holliday (Dreamgirls, The Color Purple), Guest Star

Trevor Graydon - (Cast) Joey Lawrence (TV’s “Blossom”, “Melissa & Joey” Broadway’s Chicago), Guest Star

Millie Dillmount - Lead role. Needs strong vocal, acting and dance skills. Must have star quality stage presence. Must be a solid tap dancer. Age: 21 to 25; Vocal range  - Mezzo with a belt

Jimmy Smith - Lead role. Needs strong vocal and acting skills. Must have star quality stage presence. Needs to move very well, but does not need to tap. Age: 25-30; Vocal range  - High Baritone/Tenor

Mrs. Meers - Needs strong vocal and comedic acting skills. Needs strong stage presence.
Age: 45-55; Vocal range  - Alto, strong belt (this role does not need to attend the dance call)

Dorothy Brown - Needs strong vocal, acting and dance skills. Needs strong stage presence.
Ages: 21 to 25; Vocal range  - Soprano

Ching Ho - Needs solid vocal and comedic acting skills. Will sing and speak in Chinese. We will train, but actor needs a good ear. Ages: 21 to 30; Vocal range  - Baritone/Tenor
(this role does not need to attend the dance call)

Bun Foo - Needs solid vocal and comedic acting skills. Will sing and speak in Chinese. We will train, but actor needs a good ear. Ages: 21 to 30; Vocal range  - Baritone/Tenor
(this role does not need to attend the dance call)​

Miss Flannery - Needs solid vocal and comedic acting skills. Must be a solid tap dancer.
Ages: 40-50; Vocal range  - Alto/Mezzo, with a belt.

Ensemble - Needs solid vocal and dance skills, ability to sing harmony. Priscilla Girls and Muzzy's Boys and all small roles will come from the ensemble. Ages: 18 to 30; Vocal ranges  - All
