A Kid Like Jake is a study of intimacy, parenthood and the fantasies we create for and about ourselves and our children. It is the story of a husband and wife who are struggling to do right by their son, a precocious four-year old, more comfortable playing Cinderella or Ariel than a prince. A Kid Like Jake calls into question assumptions about gender, class, education and acceptance and examines the lives of one family through the lens of 21st century parenting.

Characters (any race):
Alex – female- 26-40 Former lawyer, who through her own insistence, gave up law after two years to stay home and raise her son. She is very intelligent, strong willed yet harbors definite insecurity.

Greg – male-26-40 A Psychologist who is comfortable with letting his wife Alex take the parenting lead. He is easy-going and would prrobably rather step out or give in than fight things out. He earned his own way through school and it is a point of pride with him.

Judy – female-30-50 – The owner of the preschool Jake attends and an advisor to parents trying to get their preschoolers into high end private New York grammar schools. She and Alex are social friends as well. She is pragmatic and realistic.

Nurse -any gender- Early 20s- Seen as a young female nurse for brief scenes early on, later has an extremely important scene where she can be seen as Jake as a young woman.
