This morning, City of Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton held a press conference to announce the addition of three new resident companies to the Herberger Theater Center.

Beginning with the 2018-2019 season Arizona Opera, Childsplay Theatre and Arizona Broadway Theatre will join current resident companies, Arizona Theatre Company, Center Dance Ensemble and iTheatre Collaborative.

Childsplay will move all of their productions to the Herberger, from their current Tempe Center for the Arts location, while Arizona Broadway Theatre will present three productions in the downtown Phoenix location in addition to the year round productions at their home in Peoria, which is currently under expansion to add a second performance space. Arizona Opera will continue to present several productions a year at Symphony Hall but will add two productions at the Herberger.

On hand for the press conference were Mark Mettes, President & CEO of the Herberger Theater Center; Joseph Specter, the President and General Director of Arizona Opera; Steve Martin, Managing Director and Dwayne Hartford, Artistic Director of Childsplay Theatre; and Kiel Klaphake, CEO & Executive Producer of Arizona Broadway Theatre

As the press release for this announcement stated, these new companies will add to the extraordinary offerings of performing arts, as the Herberger Theater Center fulfills its vision to provide and support significant and relevant experiences and to serve as a premier performance venue, “Where Audience Meets Art.”
