Theater Works Announces Youth Works Fall 2016 Academy Classes

Theater Works announces the Fall YouthWorks Academy classes for acting and musical theater begin September 14. This semester’s classes will incorporate themes into the musical theater options. Classes are based on grade level with options for grades 1 – 12. Acting 101 will teach the fundamentals every actor needs to know. A must for any aspiring actor. Kids in fourth grade through sixth grade can also work with a choreographer and musical director to learn the fundamentals of Musical Theater while exploring the popular musical WICKED. First through third grade musical theater class will study under the Broadway hit BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Our youngest performers (ages 4-6) are able to use their creative minds to bring fun characters to life through dramatic play, art, and music In Imagination Theatre. Academy classes are taught by Theater Works distinguished teaching artists. Classes begin September 14. Registration deadline September 12.

Theater Works Youth Works Academy is especially geared towards fostering young actors to develop and hone their acting and stage presence skills. Focus is on building confidence through individual and group achievements offering a wide range of programs for aspiring actors with varying degrees of skill and experience. Academy classes culminate with a classroom sharing or performance of understanding for friends and family to attend.


Youth Works Academy Classes:

ACTING 101
Acting 101 will teach the fundamentals every actors needs to know. Theatre games and exercises will explore the actor’s tool box to stretch the voice, body and imagination. Performers learn to embody a character, identify obstacles and work to achieve an objective through a variety of tactics, open scene work and improvisation. Acting classes focus on essential physical, vocal and improvisational skills.
Grades 7-12, $175
Wednesdays (10 weeks) September 14-November 16 from 4:00PM-5:00PM
Grades 4-6, $175
Wednesdays (10 weeks) September 14-November 16 from 5:00PM-6:00PM
Grades 1-3 $175
Thursdays (10 weeks) September 15-November 17 from 5:30PM-6:30PM

MUSICAL THEATER
A choreographer and musical director will introduce you to essential dancing, singing and acting skills while you rehearse and perform several ensemble numbers. In each session of Musical Theatre we learn how to use dance and well-crafted songs to develop strong characters and engaging acting scenes.

Musical Theater-WICKED
Grades 4-6 $200.00
Thursdays (10 weeks) September 15-November 17 from 4:00PM-5:30PM

Musical Theater-Beauty & the Beast
Grades 1-3 $200.00
Saturdays (10 weeks) September 10-November 12 from 10:00AM-11:30AM

Imagination Theatre
In Imagination Theatre our youngest performers are able to use their creative minds to bring fun characters to life through dramatic play, art, and music. Exciting adventures will carry us to new discoveries that will inspire a story that builds and grows week after week. Through the creative process and theater games we will create a brand new play to share with friends and family during our final session. This creative class is ideal for both boys and girls. Taught by teaching artist Elizabeth Peterson.
Ages 4-6 $145.00
SATURDAYS (8 weeks) September 24-November 12 from 9:00AM-10:00AM

Classes will be held at Peoria Center for the Performing Arts (8355 West Peoria Avenue, Peoria, AZ). Academy classes require a minimum of 8 students for a class to take place. If registered for a class that is cancelled all monies will be fully refunded.
