Brelby Theatre Company Announces Fall Educational Offerings

The Brelby Theatre Company located in Historic Downtown Glendale is pleased to announce their Fall line-up of classes available to the community.

With offerings from musical theatre to improv, there are options for every skill level.

Musical Theatre Intensive (1st 6 week session)
Teaching Artists: Shelby Maticic, C.J. O’Hara
Date/Time: Saturdays beginning September 17, ending on October 22; 9AM to 11AM
Cost: $75

Do you love musicals? Do you find yourself bursting randomly into song? Do you belt your heart out while driving to show tunes? Let us introduce you to Brelby’s newest intensive: musical theatre! Participants will explore solos, duets, and ensemble numbers from a range of different musicals. This is the perfect opportunity to develop musical theatre skills, increase your knowledge of musical theatre, and to prepare materials for future auditions. Teaching Artists Shelby Maticic and C.J. O’Hara bring a wealth of knowledge, coaching, compassion, and energy to their musical theatre work. Expect to learn, challenge yourself, and have fun!

Introduction to Improv Workshop (1st 6 week session)
Teaching Artist: Devon Mahon
Date/Time: Sundays beginning September 18, ending on October 23; 9AM to 11AM
Cost: $75
Think fast! Learn the basic skills and techniques of improv to improve your ability to think on your feet and perform with confidence. This workshop introduces students to a variety of styles of improv, including improv games, scene work, and long form. Lead by one of Brelby’s top improv performers, Teaching Artist Devon Mahon provides students with creative, challenging, and fun opportunities for growth.

Introduction to Acting Workshop (2nd 6 week session)
Teaching Artist: Jenny Gantwerker
Date/Time: Saturdays beginning November 5, ending on December 17; 9AM to 11AM (No class on Saturday, 11/26)
Cost: $75
Whether you’re just getting into acting, have an initial interest, or would like to brush up on your skills, Brelby’s Introduction to Acting Workshop has much to offer. Under the skilled instruction of Teaching Artist Jenny Gantwerker, students will explore and develop various areas of acting skills through monologues and scene study exercises from a wide range of plays. Participants can expect to learn and grow as performers while preparing future audition materials. No prior acting experience is necessary.

Advanced Improv Workshop (2nd 6 week session)
Teaching Artist: David Magadan
Date/Time: Sundays beginning November 6, ending on December 18; 9AM to 11AM (No class on Sunday, 11/27)
Cost: $75
So, you’ve developed your improv skills and you’re looking to grow even further. The Advanced Improv Workshop will coach you through creative challenges to increase your spontaneity and to discover deeper imaginative choices…all while having fun with fellow improvisers. Instructed by one of Brelby’s top improv performers, Teaching Artist David Magadan offers students an exciting and challenging learning environment.

Play Reading Group (Sept. through Dec.)
Teaching Artist: John Perovich
Date/Time: The following Saturdays, 9AM to 12PM: 9/3, 10/1, 11/5, 12/3
Cost: $100.00
Join us once a month for Brelby’s Fall Play Reading Group! Participants will meet once a month in September, October, November, and December, to read four plays aloud, covering a wide-range of styles. Plays include: Our Town by Thornton Wilder, Doubt by John Patrick Shanley, Machinal by Sophie Treadwell, and Rumors by Neil Simon. Participants will receive a copy of each play with the cost of signing up for the group.
