audition notice - KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN - Scottsdale Musical Theater Company - March 20

Audition Dates/Times:    
Sunday, March 20th  
Dance Call @ 10:00am; Singing Auditions @ 11:00am - 1:00pm

Monday, March 21st  
Dance Call @ 8:00pm; Singing Auditions @ 9:00pm - 11:00pm

The following roles do not need to attend the dance call:
Mama, Marta, Warden

Performance Dates:May 25 - 29
Performance Venue:Tempe Center for the Arts

Rehearsals start:          
Early April and will be on Tuesday and Thursday nights plus Saturday and Sunday afternoons. All rehearsals will be held at Conservatory of Dance. Cast members will never be required to attend every rehearsal. There will be a rehearsal schedule with specific dates provided at auditions and a conflict sheet to fill out.

Audition Requirements:

Dancing
The dance calls will start promptly at their designated times. Please be ready to start on time and wear dance appropriate clothes and shoes. All females should wear character heels if possible. You will need to stay and sing. Please see the singing requirements below. For ensemble roles only, you do not need to schedule a singing audition time. You will sing following the dance call. However, if you are auditioning for a named role, you will also need to sign up for a specific singing time slot.

Singing/Acting
Singing/acting auditions will be by appointment only. Please email auditions@scottsdalemusicaltheater.com or call (602) 909-4215 to schedule your audition time. Audition times will be assigned every 5 minutes. You will need to have sheet music in the proper key. No cds or acapella singing will be allowed. Please have 2 contrasting vocal selections of 32 bars or less ready. An accompanist will be provided. Please do not sing anything from the show. Have your music either in a hole-punched binder or taped together. (please no loose pages) You may also be asked to do a monologue, not to exceed 1 minute, so please have one prepared just in case.

Character Breakdown
Aurora (The “Spider Woman”) - Age 20’s - 40’s. Strong Alto: Bottom Low C#, Moderate/Strong Dance. Attractive, menacing, mysterious, seductive. Must be a strong dancer.

Molina - 20’s 30’s. Strong acting, strong Baritone: Top F# , moderate/minimal dance. Flamboyant, effeminate. Former window-dresser who escapes into Hollywood fantasies in his mind.

Valentin  - 30’s. Strong acting, Strong Tenor: Top A. Strong revolutionary, fierce and passionate about his cause.

Mama - 50’s-60’s. Strong Alto/Mezzo: Top C, Bottom F. Molina’s mother. Protective and proud of her son. (Dance call not required)

Marta - 20’s-30’s. Moderate acting, Strong Soprano: Top F. Valentin’s love interest. Sweet and caring, mysterious in her own way. (Dance call not required)

Warden - 30’s-50’s. Moderate Baritone: Top F, no dance. Gruff and conniving. (Dance call not required)

Gabriel - 20’s-30’s. Moderate Acting, Strong Baritone: Top G. A waiter who befriends Valentin. Also doubles in ensemble as a prisoner.

Male Ensemble - 20’s - 40’s, good dancers and movers. Will play various roles (guards, Aurora’s fantasy men, prisoners, etc.)

Female Ensemble - 20’s - 40’s, good dancers and movers. Will play various roles (townsfolk, Aurora’s fantasy women, prisoners, etc.)
