audition notice - DOUBT - Mesa Encore Theatre

From our friends at MET:

Director: Kent Burnham

Rehearsals Begin: 03/09/2015
Performance Dates: 06/05/2015 – 06/21/2015

Synopsis
A gripping story of suspicion cast on a priest’s behavior that is less about scandal than about fascinatingly nuanced questions of moral certainty. Winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award.

Character Breakdown
Sister Aloysius Beauvier (Female, ages 45-65, Caucasian): Watchful, reserved, and unsentimental. A woman of deep conviction and personal strength.
Father Brendan Flynn (Male, ages 28-40, Caucasian): A working class man from the Northeast. Charismatic and forward-thinking, a man capable of holding secrets on the inside. A progressive priest new to the St. Nicholas Parish.
Sister James (Female, ages 20-30, Caucasian): Has a bit of sunshine in her heart, though she is reserved as well. A young nun who wants to do well for her students and the church–both her strength and her weakness.
Mrs. Muller (Female, ages 30-44, African American): Dressed in her Sunday best for church, on red alert, fiercely protective of her son, (who is the first African American student to attend the St. Nicholas School) yet deferential to the power of the church.
